See the refunds, discounts and drawer opens that don't add up.
Cash Over Short reads your Clover transactions every 15 minutes and flags the ones outside the ranges you set: large refunds, sale-then-refund within minutes, open checks left overnight, no-sale drawer opens, and any employee whose refund, discount or void rate is far above your store's average. Each alert explains the numbers behind it.

How it works
Install, set your thresholds, mark your managers. Cash Over Short does the reading.
Install from Clover
One click from the Clover App Market. Cash Over Short asks for read access to employees, orders and payments, and nothing else. It never writes to your Clover account.
It reviews your last 45 days
The first review runs within minutes of installing. After that, every 15 minutes, plus a weekly summary email even when nothing was flagged, so silence means quiet, not broken.
You get the explanation, not a verdict
Every alert states the amounts, times and comparisons behind it. What they mean, and what to do, is your call. Dismiss with a reason, or raise the threshold.
What it flags
Eight rules. The first five work from day one; the last three switch on once an employee has 50 transactions in the last 30 days, so the averages mean something.
Large refund
Any single refund at or above your threshold (default $100).
Large discount
Any discount at or above your threshold (default 30%).
Open check left outstanding
An order still open with no payment after the hours you set (default 6).
Refund shortly after sale
A refund within minutes of the sale it reverses (default 15).
Drawer opened with no sale
No-sale drawer opens, counted per employee per day.
Rate above store average
An employee's refund, discount or void rate at 3× the store average or higher. Managers are excluded, because managers legitimately do more of all three. Pro and Complete.
Built to be trusted with your register data
The rules below are enforced in the software, tested automatically on every change, and written into our Terms.
Read-only, by permission
Cash Over Short holds no write permission in Clover. It cannot refund, void, discount or delete. Clover enforces this, not just us.
Your data stays yours
Your employees are compared only with your other employees. Nothing is pooled or compared across businesses, ever.
No customer information
Customer names, cards and contact details are never read or stored. Only employee names and transaction amounts, times and types.
Facts, never verdicts
Alerts state amounts and comparisons. They never say someone did something wrong and never suggest what to do about an employee. That is your decision, and the software is built so it cannot make it for you.
Every alert is kept, unchanged
Alerts and the records they were computed from cannot be edited after the fact, by us or by anyone. Data is deleted within 13 months of uninstalling.
Employee notice included
Some states and provinces require written notice of transaction monitoring. A notice template is included; the setting page asks you to confirm you've given it.
Pricing
Billed monthly through Clover. Every tier starts with a 30-day free trial. Cancel by uninstalling. Going over a tier's transaction allowance never stops the review; the dashboard simply suggests the next tier. No overage charges.

Loss estimate
An informational estimate built from published industry averages. It is not a measurement of your business, and Cash Over Short does not determine whether any loss has occurred.
Sources for the averages: National Retail Federation retail security surveys and hospitality industry loss studies, which report internal loss in the range of roughly 0.8% to 1.5% of revenue depending on segment. Figures are rounded.
Questions
The short answers. The help centre has the long ones.
Does Cash Over Short tell me whether an employee did something wrong?
No. Cash Over Short identifies unusual transaction patterns; it does not determine why they happened or whether anything improper occurred. Every pattern it flags has legitimate explanations, and reviewing the transactions and deciding what to do is your responsibility as the employer.
Can it change anything in my Clover account?
No. It has read-only access and no write permission. It cannot edit, refund, void or delete anything.
Do I need to tell my employees?
In a number of states and provinces, employers must give staff prior written notice of transaction monitoring. That obligation is yours. Cash Over Short includes a notice template you can adapt, and the settings page asks you to confirm notice has been given.
What data does it store?
Employee names and IDs, and transaction records: orders, payments, refunds, discounts and cash-drawer events with amounts, times and the employee attached by Clover. No customer information is read or stored. Data is deleted within 13 months of uninstalling.
Does it work with Square, Toast or other POS systems?
No. Cash Over Short is built for Clover only and installs from the Clover App Market.
Where is it available?
United States and Canada, excluding Quebec.
How do I cancel?
Uninstall from the Clover App Market. Billing stops through Clover.
